By-Laws

Article I - Name

The name of this organization shall be the Milford High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Article II - Purpose

The purpose of the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame is to select and honor outstanding athletes, coaches, individuals, and teams who have contributed significantly to the athletic program at Milford High School.

Article III - Membership

Section 1: Membership in the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame may be conferred upon graduates or individuals who are nominated and meet the standards set forth in this document. in accordance with the stated procedures.

Section 2: The MHS Athletic Hall of Fame, at those times deemed appropriate by the Selection Commiottee, may nominate, select and induct an individual who does not qualify as an alumnas / alumna but is deemed worthy of inducction beacuse of his/her outstanding contributions to Milford High School athletics.

Article IV - Selection Criteria for Membership

Membership in the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame will be granted to those who meet the following criteria:

  • They have distinguished themselves and brought honor to Milford High SDchool through their outstanding participation in the athletic program.
  • They have continued to distinquish themselves and bring honor to their organizations and community through outstanding achievement and/or service.
  • They serve(d) as outstanding examples of the type of character, couraage, leadership and well-rounded individuals that Milford High School seeks to develop through its athletic program
  • Athletic teams shall have achieved outstanding records and /or won significant championships.

Article V - Eligibility for Nomination

Section 1: Former Milford High School students will be eligible for nomination for membership in the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame anytime after the 10th anniversary of their original class's graduation from high school.

Section 2:  A coach's eligibility will be based uppon a high degree of competency and success. Candidates must have contributed toward promoting sound educational values in their athletes. Coaches are eloigible for induction 5 years after leaving the coachinhg position for which they were nominated in the Milford Public Schools or immediately after attaining the age of 60.

Section 3: An athletic team's eligibility will be based upon success of the team (Art. IV, Sec. 4). Teams are eligible for induction after the 10th anniversary of the graduation of senior members of the team. No team shall be inducted unless it has received the affirmative vote of at leas 75% of the members of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.

Article VI - Nomination and Selection

Section1:  Any member of the community may nnominate a qualifed individual for consideration by the Selection Committee

Section 2: The Selection Committee may on its own initiative nominate candidates for membership

Section 3: Any member of the Milford High School faculty and staff of may nominate candidates for membership

Sectyion 4: Applications will only be accepted by completing an offoial MILFORD HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME NOMINATION FORM that will be available in the Athletic Office at Milford High school or the website at milfordhshalloffame.org 

Article VII - Executive Director

Section 1: The Milford High School Director of Athletics will serve as the Executive Director of the Milford High School Hall of Fame Committee. Alternatively, the Executive Director will be elected by a vote of the Selection Committee

Section 2: The Executive Director will be responsible for convening a general Hall of Fame Committee Meeting every other year to begin work for the next selection cycle and a Business Meeting within thirty days after each induction ceremony in order to mpay all final bills and conclude all business associated with said induction ceremony.

Section 3:  The Executive Director will be responsble for announcing the inductees chosen by the Selectoion Committee subsequent to review and examination of applications. 

Article VIII - Selection Committee

Section 1: The Selection Committee will consist of 15 members. The Committee will be appointed by the Executive Directorfrom members of the community and faculty / staff who express an interest in serving.

Section 2: The Selection Committee from within its membership will elect the following positions for a two year term in office:

  • Chairperson- responsible for scheduling, organizing and chairing all committee meetings
  • Vice Chairperson- to assist the Chair as needed and to undertake the duties of the Chair in hgis / her absence
  • Secretary- responsible for recording minutes of each meeting and keeping permanent records of all inductions
  • Treasurer-  responsible for the management of any monies associated with the Hall of Fame

Section 3: The Selection Committee will organize into the following sub-committees each with its own chairperson:

  • Nominations - responsible for the publication, collection and dissemination of nomination information to the committee
  • Ways and Means - responsible for developing a budget, fundraising and planning for the induction ceremony
  • Awards - responsible for procuring all awards for inductees and permanent display, as well as publication of a program booklet
  • Old Timers Committee - responsible for providing the Selection Committee with the names and resumes of two individuals (living) and any deceased individuals, as well as any St. Mary's Central Catholic HS graduates, who graduated/coached 50 or more years prior to the upcoming induction. These individuals will be automatic inductees, without any further vote.

Article IX - Selection Process

Section 1: Selection procedures  shall be determined by the Selectioon Committee, provided eligibility and selection criteria set forth herein are met.

Section 2: Selections shall be made once every two yearsfrom nominees. ndividuals require a 2/3 vote, teams require a 75% vote.

Secvtion 3: The Executive Director will publicly announce those seleceted for membership in the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

Section 4: Not more than 8 individuals shall be inducted into the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame during any induction cycle, excluding Old Timers and those inducted posthumously.

Section 5: Not withstanding the above, the Selection Committee may induct individuals who have won State or New England Championships.

Article X - Induction

Section 1: Candidates selected for Induction into the MHS Athletic Hal;l of Fame shall be inducted at a proper and fitiing ceremony held in the year of selection.

Section 2: Pictures of inductees, along with a synopsis of their accomplishments, will be publicly displayed in the Milford High School Athletic Hall of Fame area.

Section 3:  Inductees into the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame shall be presented with a suitable memento at the time of their induction.

Article XI - Amendments

These By-Laws may be amended by an affirmative vote of at least 2/3 of the Committee, consisting of the Executive Director and the Selection Committee, provided that at least 12 voting members are present.
